Initial D

This anime series was made for me! Last week, watched "Initial D the Movie" 2nd time in a month (this time with my bro). Even though it was in cantonese, I think they did a great job, especially for a chinese movie. Maybe I haven't seen the good ones, but my general impression of chinese movies are they're cheesy, stupid, and just plain crap, as seen on OMNI-TV. Anyway, the movie was surprisingly close to the anime series, or at least much more so than I expected. Details like the AE86 Trueno and the tofu shop are unreal... they really brought back memories of the series. My only gripe is the last race which was held with... WHAT?!... 3 cars?! That doesn't happen! But I liked how the movie ended with the main character and his girlfriend breaking up... in true Japanese fashion! And I also finally learned who this J-chow guy who gets girls all screaming and crazy is. Well, looks like he makes great music, but I think he's better off sticking with that instead of acting.

Keeping the Wheel Turning

It's been over a week since I last blogged, and I feel like if I leave it any longer, my blog will fall by the wayside like other things I tried to keep up but failed.

Last Friday it was dinner then bubble tea with daniel & company. Can't believe he's going back to China for good! Saturday it was volleyball at ashbridges then downtown chinatown for dinner. Except "boomerang" ball might be a better word for it, cuz it was so windy that after you hit the ball it almost comes right back to you (well, i'm exagerating a bit, but you get the idea). Since there were only 5 of us (plus 2 strangers who joined us later on), it was a tremendous amount of exercise for me (as opposed to the very little to none I usually get). That night, slept for 11 hours straight... can't remember the last time I was able to do that! Was sore Sunday and Monday. Sunday, biked around the neighbourhood with my bro, then played keep-up with a soccerball. First time we chilled together since he came back from Cadet camp, which was 6 weeks long. Monday, caught a couple of episodes of Friends on TBS... still love that show!

81.5 Gas!

What's this world coming to?! 81.5 gas?! Oh well, can't complain, lower the better!

Delicious!

This is a clown loach. It's actually a delicacy in Indonesia and Borneo, where it originates. And I have a couple of these in my tank! Who wants to try? Yum!

Outing to IKEA

Helped Eddy pick up his bed at IKEA today. There were so many people that Toronto Police officers were there to direct traffic. Swedish meatballs are the best! Herbed salmon was good too.

Co-op Student

During the summer, we had a co-op student from George Brown at our company. For the most part he was working back in the manufacturing section, but past couple of weeks my boss brought him into the engineering department, and he was supposed to observe me as I work, and I was supposed to show him stuff when I had the time. Thing was, I didn't have the time - I still had my own work to do, and here is this kid asking me the most basic questions. I wonder if that was me when I first started out... haha. So, the best I could do was give him some software manuals and let him do some exercises by himself. And I wasn't particularly motivated to train someone who might not come back after his final year of school. Was I just a little bit mean? Oh well, today was his last day. If you're reading this, "Student" (that was his nickname), no hard feelings =P

Too Much Time

Before

After

Can you spot the difference? I hated the way how the black sills/skirts/rocker-panels/whatever-you-want-to-call-them looked. So way back in June, I guess I had too much time on my hands (even though I really didn't), and with my folks away in HK, I went ahead and painted them silver. The car spent 3 days in the shop (i.e. home garage). So the outcome? Good from far, but far from good! Color match, for one, is horrible. But it does make the car look lower, and for that the photos don't do it justice... haha. Ah well, for those who even care.

Not So Good Afterall

Elaine, Naomi and I were at the Oakville Jazz Festival last Friday, and as I watched this one band, I couldn't help but wish I could play jazz like their keyboardist. So a couple of nites ago, I thought I'd try to duplicate what I heard that nite. Pshhht... yeah right! Quickly gave up on that, and dug up some grade 10 and AR pieces... man, could barely play those too... most I could manage is 4 bars non-stop?! Sighhh... if only piano doesn't take so much time to keep up. I really miss how I used to play!

Flox?

Besides calling me "Day", mom also calls my cat "Flox" as opposed to "Foxy". You've just got to hear it, it's funny! But isn't Flox harder to pronounce? And anyone's got a clue where she pulled that from?

How Was Your Day?

Most of the time when people ask me how my day was, I really don't have much to say. I mean, 75% of my waking hours is spent at work, and it's me, the computer in front of me, and the work on the screen. There's two other co-workers in the room with me, and sure we chat, but we never work in teams (or on the same project at the same time), I seldom have to deal with customers or suppliers, and my boss is rarely on my case. So there's really no such thing as workplace dynamics and office politics in my little bubble. So what's new and exciting at work? Not much at all!

Identity Fraud Hits Home

Some of you may have heard that last week, a mail-lady was attacked in Mississauga and the mail stolen from her. It so happens that this took place at the mailbox that our company uses, and sure enough, some of the company cheques were in that mail. Within a few short days, the theives were already reproducing falsified cheques with the names, amounts and cheque numbers altered. Thankfully, our accountant picked out the suspicious transactions before sigificant harm was done, called the bank and closed the account. Cheques-in-process were returned from as far as Hawaii and California, totalling $18,000. The most important part though is that a new bank account was set up just in time for pay day, which is today! Yay! But what a gentle reminder of the kind of world we live in. You can never be too careful.

My Cottage Stories

Awesome weekend is all I gotta say. Thanks so much Jen and Julian! So as soon as we get to the island, I was unanimously nominated the "boat babe", because Jen the original boat babe was to leave Saturday evening. Besides posing on the boat, the main job of the boat babe was to be first off the boat (FOB, get it? haha) and bring her into the dock. But that quickly became secondary... naturally the title "boat babe" brings with it jokes of a certain nature. Nuff of that.

On Saturday, after Bible study and lunch, the Foreman (Julian) put us down to some real work. I would say we accomplished quite a bit, finishing up the floor joists and topping off with the floorboards for the front porch. After it was all done, we took advantage of the new stage and did some fine Celtic dancing. And we intiated the cottage noobies (Marc, Elaine, Grace) by making them do interpretive dancing. Got such a laugh outta that!

On Sunday, after church and ice cream, I almost lost my glasses! We were all chilling on the dock, and after some taunting by Bonnie that I wouldn't push her into the lake, I proceeded to do just that. What I didn't expect was that Julian would push me in right after... with my glasses on. So yup, after the dunk I resurfaced WITHOUT MY GLASSES. A search and rescue mission immediately ensued, but turned up nothing. The water was getting murky with all the kicked up mud, so the rescue team decided to try again half hour later. Now, here we are, 20 minutes into the second search, I pretty much gave up hope of ever finding them. They would become lake-bottom treasure that perhaps another cottage group would find 5 years from now... haha. But then suddenly, the Foreman shouted "I got the baby!", and I was so shocked and elated when I saw them again. Definitely a mini miracle... because I did pray for them! But thanks everyone, for a moment I felt the whole Emmanuel army was either helping or supporting me... that was something special all on its own.

Just Another Day

Besides being what it obviously is, the title of my Blog has a secondary meaning to it. Due to my mom's almost perfect English, when she says my English name, it comes out as "Day". Just so you know =P
