Suddenly, the realization hit me how the sun's light was absolutely enveloping everything around me - and it was as if God was showing me a glimpse of His glory. And then, to imagine how amazing it would be when we stand before His throne and worship at His feet - that was a such a moment of worship.

I used to think, what fun would it be in heaven if all we do is worshipping Him? But I've come to realize that God's presence is the only thing that can satisfy. And on the day when we are fully before His presence, in the all-consuming light of His glory, we will be all the more fully and completely satisfied.

Amen.

Blah

I've been feeling so unmotivated last couple of months. I was there for nite skiing with Cliff, Len, Chris, Dan, and a few others. During the 5th or 6th run, I was falling and my ski pole got caught in the snow, and the handle went right into my eye, or you could say I fell right onto the handle. Even telling this, it sounds pretty dumb, but everything happened in a flash, and I had no control at all. Anyway, the right lens on my glasses shattered into several pieces and came out of the frame, and is what probably gave me the cuts around my eye. But the nurses say the glasses may have taken the brunt of the force and saved my eyeball from damage.

After the hit, I sat down with my hand over my eye, not knowing how bad it was. It was when I removed my hand and saw it was full of blood, and blood was dripping from my face, I thought "what'd I do to myself?!" I was prepared for the worst, but I remembered the first thing I did was praise the Lord, ackowledging that all I have is from Him. Cliff's friend Len who was skiing behind me quickly stopped and made sure ski patrol was notified, and also made sure the other skiiers wouldn't run into us.

Ski patrol had a little mix-up, but they eventually arrived and put me on that little toboggan to get me to the bottom of the hill, where an ambulance was waiting. This was my first ever ambulance ride... always wondered as a kid what it was like :) They took very good care of me at Collingwood hospital, except for doing my x-rays where there was another mix-up and we had to wait an extra hour or two. Otherwise, I was impressed with the friendly service. Well the good news is that my eye is ok. I got 12-15 stitches and will end up with scars, but I'm really counting my blessings.

So I'll be home this week just to get a little more rest in. Can't go to work because I can't look at a computer screen for long periods of time, as the swelling puts pressure on my eye. Don't think I can drive yet either. Thanks to everyone for your get well wishes and prayers. Even my work sent me a goodies basket, which I thought was really nice. Special mention goes to Cliff and his friend Len, who stayed with me during the whole thing and didn't once show their impatience. Don't know if I could've done the same.
<img width='1' height='1' This better be at the Autoshow!

Please don't dismiss it and say "oh it's got 4 wheels... it's just a car", cuz that drives me up the wall. Car design is an art form, like architecture or even paintings. There's a lot of ugliness out there, but there are some real beauties. Seeing this really wet my appetite again for my dream of becoming a car designer. That was my dream ever since I was a kid, and I have stashes of hand sketches and doodles of my own designs to prove it. I must say looking back through them, alot of them aren't that pretty! Nevertheless, perhaps it's time for a career change... haha
<img width='1' height='1' I don't think I'll be trying that again, or at least not with such a short time frame. At first I thought Ottawa and Montreal are close enough together, why not do both, right? Afterall, it saves me 2 trips. I hung out at Kel's place in Ottawa a little bit Friday nite and Sunday afternoon, but in the end, I spent most of my time in Montreal. Sorry Kel, next time, i'll make a trip just for you.

Montreal was alot of fun. Thanks N for showing me around. On the one hand, there were the bustling shopping malls that define any major urban center, and on the other hand, there was old montreal which, at this time of year, has an ironically small town charm to it. I wish my French was better, well, alot better... I envy people speaking the language, it has that sophisticated air to it. We had Schwartz's smoked meat, and man, there's nothing else like it in the world. Had to wait in line for like 15min., but it was well worth it, and we laughed at the tour bus that stopped and left because they couldn't afford to wait. Took a short walk in Chinatown because it was so tiny compared to Toronto's! Literally, it was all of a 2-block stretch on a single street! The food there was actually respectable.

In the evening, went to see N at her PT fashion show. It was very entertaining, they had a movie theme for the nite, so all the acts were somehow related to a movie. For example, there was a James bond one where there were 4 different Bonds dressed in tuxes posing with guns and fighting each other. Then the ladies came and reigned them in, and the act ended with the pairs dancing.

Next morning, attended church at Montreal Chinese Alliance. Very pretty, it was entirely stained-glass windows because it used to be a Catholic church. Then headed back to Ottawa, drove by the parliament buildings, museums, and downtown, and headed back to Kel's place for a bit, before C and I left for the long ride home. Which wasn't bad... Ottawa to Mississauga in 4 hours?

Next trip to the region: skating on the Rideau, and skiing at Tremblant. As long as I'm Canadian, a skate on the Rideau is one of my goals.

I have a new respect for my car now. I wasn't sure it would make the 1400km there and back, but it did. The car burns quite a bit of engine oil, but as I found out, it's much better with highway driving... didn't have to use any of the extra oil that I brought.

So... Today the hole in my driveway was fixed! Well, the broken pipe, which is the most important part. This is the hole they dug to get to it (it's about 10 ft deep!) They fixed the pipe and backfilled it, but still have to come and repave the driveway. Finally, a step in the right direction. The weeks of persistence, and pestering the people responsible with emails and phone calls, finally paid off! To make a long story short, they were trying their best not to do anything about it. Thanks for all your advice and support, and thank God for answering my prayers.

I showed my co-worker pics of our 80's trash party, and he said "invite me to the next one" :)

Had a 5-hour nap after dinner and now i'm wide awake :( Just finished cleaning the fish tank.

Dilemma

The upcoming TSO concert is one I don't want to miss, featuring Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. Think about it... when people talk about good English novels, when does a Chinese name ever come up?Vincent Lam took top honours with "Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures", a collection of short stories about student doctors (I think). This guy looks like he's just in his early 30's, AND he's a emergency room doctor too, let alone being an author. Some people just has what it takes, and I sure ain't one of them.

To all you up-and-coming authors/writers, keep on writing... you'll get your chance yet!

Ma New Toys

I picked these up Sunday nite... that's why I missed THE "tea party" :(
Hope to have these on by the weekend.

Who's is that?!

So yesterday, this blue BMW 3-series (from the 90's, but still a classic) shows up at work. Lowered, with the M3 body kit, and race rims. Everyone was like who's car is that? Turns out one of the guys at work actually owns it. Apparently it's his "winter toy"... he drives a Mustang in the summer. >(

Looks something like this:

Catching Up

Mmmm... catching up on other ppl's blogs is fun. Didn't know what to expect, so I was just gonna go there to check it out, not really thinking to join in the action. Well, we were late so we missed alot, but just watching the rest of the lesson was fun. I learned that there's alot of hip-action and the girls do 90% of the work! They taught alot of moves, but I couldn't really duplicate any of them... haha... being late certainly didn't help. I joined in when they later opened up the dance floor. I had a blast.

After salsa, headed north to Scarborough to join some Queen's friends and some Jaffray Alliance friends for pickup ice hockey. It seems everyone knew but me that DVP was closed, I was over a half an hour late. Before I got there, I thought maybe I shouldn't bother putting on my skates and just go home. But good thing I stuck with it, cuz it turned out that the previous group ended late. Yay, got the full hour! We had the rink to ourselves, 5 on 5, 2 goalies and no subs! Oh it feels so good to play again! I scored a goal almost as soon as I stepped on the ice! 5-hole through the goalie's pads... yeah!!

I missed hockey during my Kingston days. Sometimes we played on outdoor rinks at like 1 in the morning. Sometimes we rented an arena at 5 in the morning because it was cheapest then, occasionally skipping sleep altogether!! And picking up all the boyz in the church's huge Chevy van. Crazy fun times!

On Saturday, met up with my only aunt and cousins in Canada during the afternoon. We went to grandma's grave to pay our respects. Then at nite, chilled at Pat's place, eating and playing Taboo. I brought sushi from TNT and I must say, I was impressed!

I'll watch infernal affairs 2 before getting ready for another work week

Oblivious

Some of you know that over the course of the past 2 months half the workforce at my company was laid off. I was told that the local plastics industry is currently taking a downturn, which is true considering at least one big company went belly-up. And my boss told me it was a good time to restructure the company to be better prepared for when things pick up again, and to shift our focus towards the more demanding but higher profit medical products.

Well, my company was owned by a partnership until 2 weeks ago, one of the bosses decided to back out for "personal reasons." Turns out things were much more serious than that. Just last Friday, I found out that my job was literally hanging on the wire. I knew that my bosses often disagreed, but I never knew that either of them were ready to walk away. The bottom line was that the boss that I reported to was the one that held out, so my job is safe, for now anyway. But I never considered myself more loyal to one or the other, and the other boss was a good-humoured outgoing guy, so it was kinda sad to see him go. And now I see that the lay-offs weren't purely business-driven... my boss (who does all the sales) deliberately stopped getting new business since there was a 50% chance he was gonna walk away. It was sad to see how friends and business don't always mix.

Suprise!

Surprise engagement party for my ex-housemate and bandmate Kev, and fiancee Michelle. But, my folks tell me the nite before that Friday was the mid-autumn festival and I should be home for dinner. Being Chinese, I should know, but I didn't, and the festival didn't mean much to me. Anyway, stayed home for dinner, then went to the farewell party... spent most of the nite scrapbooking... thanks to Jen!

Saturday, I entertained the idea of joining a small posse of Emmanuel for hiking, but once again family won over. We had dim sum together and did a little hiking of our own (well, trail-walking to be exact). The climax would be the evening though, cuz we (minus the sister) would spend the nite downtown, which was ultra-rare. You would never find my 'rents downtown at nite, unless of course it was for a Classical concert.

Actually I treated my family to this concert. Thanks to the TSO's special promotion for people 15-29, tickets can be had for $12 each! This was my first time hearing the TSO live, and little surprise, it's on a whole other level from the MSO (Mississauga) which we were accustomed to. The concert kicked off with an adagietto from one of Mahler's symphonies, at the end of which I wasn't sure I could stay awake for the rest. But then came the Beethoven: piano concerto no. 3 was delightful; symphony no. 7 was powerful - invigorating and full of rhythmic energy. It was a good choice after all. And trust me, it is different being there in person.

There was a guy in his late 20's sitting in front of me. He dressed like a Quaker or something, with a mustache, thick beard, brown pants and a brown vest over a white shirt. Whenever the audience applauded, he would stand up, throw his hands in the air and yell "hooray! hooray!" I couldn't help but laugh!!

People may look at me weird after what I'm going to write next, but oh well, it was a part of me. Through my later high school years, I went through a period of Classical fervor. I shunned popular music and borrowed piles of Classical CDs from the library. I would maybe listen to popular music in the car, but at home it was all Classical. Then - came university, after which I became "normal" again, if you can put it that way.

Oh, and looks like squeegee kids just got lazier. They still walk up to your car asking for money, except they said screw it to the water bucket & squeegee. This is actually a good thing... I think people would rather not have them scratch up their windshields.

Rain Rain Rain

Last Sunday I wanted to go biking at Erindale Park, but dark clouds were looming and the forecast said rain. So I didn't go, but it turned out that it wouldn't rain for a good 3 hours. I kicked myself for staying at home.

So this Sunday, I decided I'd bike no matter what. Nothing was going to stop me. Just as I was about to leave home, it started to rain, but I didn't care. I faced the rain and the wind and made it to the park... haha. Good thing it wasn't raining real hard, and by the time I got there it had already stopped. It was a great ride. Shoulda seen all the mud on my jacket! I'm so glad I didn't back down this time.

Funny, the sun came out just as I parked the bike back in the garage :)

Much Better Friday

It was a fun Friday past, despite passing up another trip to Julian's cottage. Cliff and I went over to Elaine's where Elaine and Bonbon were making noodles. We played Crazy Taxi, ate, then watched Con-Air after Oli and Alana joined us. Con-Air was classic, after having recently watched some not-so-memorable movies.

Bonbon had EasyRock playing on the radio, so just for kicks, her and Elaine made their own request that went something like this:

"Elaine, Alana and I have been friends w/ Cliff, Dave and Oliver and all us ladies want to deepen our relationship respectively. We've been great buddies over the past year. They mean so much to us, I'm not sure what we'd do w/o them. We want to tell the guys how we feel, how special they are to us, in our hearts...through this song, 'How do I live' by Leanne Rimes."

We never heard our song though :(

Friday Blues

Another friday without any plans. Due to a commitment I had, we didn't leave 'sauga til 3pm. Getting into the big TO was a nitemare, finding parking was an even bigger one... almost 3 hrs total! We didn't TTC because?? While on the Gardiner, we caught part of the airshow, which was pretty cool. The low fly-bys by the only CF-18 was deafening but worth it. Anyway, we eventually did what others did and parked on the grass right by a green P area; we purchased a parking slip anyway and hoped for the best. The Ex was crowded, and I hate big crowds. All we did there was eat. Didn't play any games or anything. Did catch the last 10 minutes of Imaginaire - the aerobatics and skate dancing show - the aerobatics girl was struggling a bit. Then we headed over to Ontario Place for the Lantern Festival. But we decided we'd just get as close as possible without paying the $15 x 5 = whopping $75 entrance fee, just to be dazzled by some lights. It was fun anyway, Ontario Place was a great spot to see the fireworks show at the Ex.

Tuesday after Labour Day I started to feel malade... was it because of CNE or was it my siblings and my dad who were on the upswing from their sicknesses? In any case, Wed it fully manifested itself in the form of body aches, cold sweats and sore throat. Took 1/2 off Wed, whole day Thurs, went back to work Friday... I thought I was better, realized I wasn't, but decided to stick with it. Grand time to be sick, amidst all the wedding preparations and the wedding itself.

On Friday, one of my co-workers back in the factory cut his finger on the grinder. I drove him to emergency at Peel Memorial. Spent 2 hours there. They decided not to stitch up the cut because it was too close to the joint and stitching it up there would actually increase the chances of infection. Ouch.

Saturday was the big day. The guys gathered at Eddy's place at 7:30 in the morning, and with a convoy of 5 cars, we headed to the bride's house. Julian and I were like paparazzi, going behind, beside, and in front of the bridal car to get a few candid shots. At the bride's house, we played the red pocket money bargaining game. Oli and Ed whittled the entrance fee down from something insane like $888,888 to $108. We almost fooled the girls with monopoly money too.

The ceremony went smoothly. Eddy was all natural and all smiles. I regret not taking any pics... at the time I thought with so many cameras, I can just get pics from someone else.
The banquet was standard chinese banquet fare. A group of us from Emmanuel presented the couple with "As Precious As Silver" with original lyrics by Jen, and the chorus of KC and JoJo's "All My Life" in harmony. Jen lost her voice and Pat's guitar suddenly went majorly out of tune for the 2nd song... but it's all good. Oli, the best man, revealed in his speech how much he relished his close moments with Eddy. Awwww.
Best game: Draping an apron over the front of Shirley with the chinese character for double happiness on it, then making Eddy put on lipstick and trace out the character.
Memorable highlight: Julian, Pat and Cliff showing how the chicken dance should be done.

Congrats Eddy & Shirley!

We're Famous!

SoleDrive, in the Sept. 8 edition of the Mississauga News! Last week, watched "Initial D the Movie" 2nd time in a month (this time with my bro). Even though it was in cantonese, I think they did a great job, especially for a chinese movie. Maybe I haven't seen the good ones, but my general impression of chinese movies are they're cheesy, stupid, and just plain crap, as seen on OMNI-TV. Anyway, the movie was surprisingly close to the anime series, or at least much more so than I expected. Details like the AE86 Trueno and the tofu shop are unreal... they really brought back memories of the series. My only gripe is the last race which was held with... WHAT?!... 3 cars?! That doesn't happen! But I liked how the movie ended with the main character and his girlfriend breaking up... in true Japanese fashion! And I also finally learned who this J-chow guy who gets girls all screaming and crazy is. Well, looks like he makes great music, but I think he's better off sticking with that instead of acting.

Keeping the Wheel Turning

It's been over a week since I last blogged, and I feel like if I leave it any longer, my blog will fall by the wayside like other things I tried to keep up but failed.

Last Friday it was dinner then bubble tea with daniel & company. Can't believe he's going back to China for good! Saturday it was volleyball at ashbridges then downtown chinatown for dinner. Except "boomerang" ball might be a better word for it, cuz it was so windy that after you hit the ball it almost comes right back to you (well, i'm exagerating a bit, but you get the idea). Since there were only 5 of us (plus 2 strangers who joined us later on), it was a tremendous amount of exercise for me (as opposed to the very little to none I usually get). That night, slept for 11 hours straight... can't remember the last time I was able to do that! Was sore Sunday and Monday. Sunday, biked around the neighbourhood with my bro, then played keep-up with a soccerball. First time we chilled together since he came back from Cadet camp, which was 6 weeks long. Monday, caught a couple of episodes of Friends on TBS... still love that show!

81.5 Gas!

What's this world coming to?! 81.5 gas?! For the most part he was working back in the manufacturing section, but past couple of weeks my boss brought him into the engineering department, and he was supposed to observe me as I work, and I was supposed to show him stuff when I had the time. Thing was, I didn't have the time - I still had my own work to do, and here is this kid asking me the most basic questions. I wonder if that was me when I first started out... haha. So, the best I could do was give him some software manuals and let him do some exercises by himself. And I wasn't particularly motivated to train someone who might not come back after his final year of school. Was I just a little bit mean? Oh well, today was his last day. I hated the way how the black sills/skirts/rocker-panels/whatever-you-want-to-call-them looked. So way back in June, I guess I had too much time on my hands (even though I really didn't), and with my folks away in HK, I went ahead and painted them silver. The car spent 3 days in the shop (i.e. home garage). So the outcome? Good from far, but far from good! Color match, for one, is horrible. But it does make the car look lower, and for that the photos don't do it justice... haha. Ah well, for those who even care.

Not So Good Afterall

Elaine, Naomi and I were at the Oakville Jazz Festival last Friday, and as I watched this one band, I couldn't help but wish I could play jazz like their keyboardist. Quickly gave up on that, and dug up some grade 10 and AR pieces... man, could barely play those too... most I could manage is 4 bars non-stop?! I mean, 75% of my waking hours is spent at work, and it's me, the computer in front of me, and the work on the screen. There's two other co-workers in the room with me, and sure we chat, but we never work in teams (or on the same project at the same time), I seldom have to deal with customers or suppliers, and my boss is rarely on my case. So there's really no such thing as workplace dynamics and office politics in my little bubble. So what's new and exciting at work? Not much at all!

Identity Fraud Hits Home

Some of you may have heard that last week, a mail-lady was attacked in Mississauga and the mail stolen from her. It so happens that this took place at the mailbox that our company uses, and sure enough, some of the company cheques were in that mail. Within a few short days, the theives were already reproducing falsified cheques with the names, amounts and cheque numbers altered. Thankfully, our accountant picked out the suspicious transactions before sigificant harm was done, called the bank and closed the account. Cheques-in-process were returned from as far as Hawaii and California, totalling $18,000. The most important part though is that a new bank account was set up just in time for pay day, which is today! Yay! But what a gentle reminder of the kind of world we live in. You can never be too careful.

My Cottage Stories

Awesome weekend is all I gotta say. Thanks so much Jen and Julian! So as soon as we get to the island, I was unanimously nominated the "boat babe", because Jen the original boat babe was to leave Saturday evening. Besides posing on the boat, the main job of the boat babe was to be first off the boat (FOB, get it? haha) and bring her into the dock. But that quickly became secondary... naturally the title "boat babe" brings with it jokes of a certain nature. Nuff of that.

On Saturday, after Bible study and lunch, the Foreman (Julian) put us down to some real work. I would say we accomplished quite a bit, finishing up the floor joists and topping off with the floorboards for the front porch. After it was all done, we took advantage of the new stage and did some fine Celtic dancing. And we intiated the cottage noobies (Marc, Elaine, Grace) by making them do interpretive dancing. Got such a laugh outta that!

On Sunday, after church and ice cream, I almost lost my glasses! We were all chilling on the dock, and after some taunting by Bonnie that I wouldn't push her into the lake, I proceeded to do just that. What I didn't expect was that Julian would push me in right after... with my glasses on. So yup, after the dunk I resurfaced WITHOUT MY GLASSES. A search and rescue mission immediately ensued, but turned up nothing. The water was getting murky with all the kicked up mud, so the rescue team decided to try again half hour later. Now, here we are, 20 minutes into the second search, I pretty much gave up hope of ever finding them. They would become lake-bottom treasure that perhaps another cottage group would find 5 years from now... haha. But then suddenly, the Foreman shouted "I got the baby!", and I was so shocked and elated when I saw them again. Definitely a mini miracle... because I did pray for them!
